The Pipes, the Pipes!

Steve Howrie

This is a stage/radio play, following the story of Scottish bagpipe player Dan Hunter and his obsession with the bagpipes. In a world where playing the pipes equates with drug addition, he is shunned by his wife and friends and eventually travels to London, desperately looking for an outlet for his craving. He finds this in Sheila, a young Australian with a bagpipe obsession greater than his own. Meanwhile, Dan’s wife Judith finds herself the amorous objective of a colleagues’ obsession – Gardening Club Chairman Simon. But is this what both Dan and Judith really want?

The Pipes, the Pipes! was first performed at the Rothesay Pavilion, Isle of Bute, Scotland, by the Bute Players. It received a raptuous reception, and was enjoyed by a packed theatre.
