Dorothy Fosbrooke

This page is all about Dorothy Fosbrooke, an amazing lady that I first met in 1979. Dorothy totally changed many people’s lives, including my own.  She had writings which were, quite literally, out of this world, and should not be forgotten. So here, I will share with you the background to those writings, and how an Educational Trust was set up in 1980 to promote and propagate the ideas and philosophy of ‘Orissor’, the source of Dorothy’s inspirational writings.

The Beginning

Dorothy Fosbrooke grew up in Manchester, England. She was a very successful businesswoman, owning five restaurants in the city and enjoying a very comfortable life with her husband. Then one day, whilst writing a cheque payment, Dorothy’s pen inexplicably ‘took over’, seeming to have a mind of it’s own. After several attempts to write the cheque, she gave up and went home, thinking she needed a good rest. However, the next time she picked up her pen, the same force moved her hand again. This time, she drew a picture of a beautiful young woman.

Looking for Answers

During the next few weeks, Dorothy was afraid to pick up a pen. Wanting to understand what was happening to her, she searched for anyone else who had experienced this phenomenon. Confiding in a friend, she was led to a  local spiritualist meeting, where she was able to talk to people who understood about ‘automatic writing’, as it was called it.

Searching for the Source

The people at the meeting told Dorothy that she must have a ‘Spirit Guide’, and encouraged her to join their Spiritualist Church. However, she did not feel comfortable with these people, seeing through their charades, and decided to face whatever force was doing this. At home, she sat quietly with a pen and blank piece of paper, and opened her mind. Instantly, she was compelled to write – her hand moving automatically across the page, producing many pages of script.

Previous Messengers

When there was no more to write, she sat back to read what had been written. She was astonished. The author told her that over the eons of history, many messengers had come to Earth to warn mankind about the way he was going, and change direction. Buddha, Krishna and Christ were three of these messengers, it said. Each time, they had mostly been ignored, or their messages twisted.

The Cure for Ailments

The source identified itself as ‘Orissor’, and said it was Dorothy’s Higher Intelligence. It told her how to cure the Arthritis she suffered from, and relayed amazing things about the Universe. From then on, Dorothy wrote with Orissor every day. Others in the neighbourhood soon heard about her writings, and came to her for help. She told them how they too could be free from of many diseases – including Cancer.

The Core Group

Two families in particular wanted to help Dorothy to spread the words of Orissor. Dorothy showed them how to listen to the voice of their Higher Intelligence, and some began to write like Dorothy Fosbrooke. They gave up their jobs, sold their homes and moved into a large house in Yorkshire, where they began to write Orissor books with Dorothy.

Mind, Body & Spirit Exhibition

To get the books known, Dorothy and her colleagues decided to give away 50,000 pounds worth of books at the Festival of Mind, Body and Spirit in London in 1979. This was an exhibition for people searching for alternative ways of life – and it was the perfect venue for the ideas of Orissor.

North Wales

After the exhibition, many people who had read the books wanted to help to spread the ideas within the books. Brockwell Cottage in Yorkshire was not large enough for all the new the supporters, so an old Victorian Workhouse was purchased in Corwen, North Wales. This would become Orissor College.

Orissor College

The old Workhouse was converted into a college for anyone wishing to learn the Orissor Way of Life. Dorothy and writing partner Bill Dawson created courses in natural health, the human mind, and self-reliance skills. We also ran a correspondence course on ‘Thought and the Human Mind’. All money from the books and the courses went to the Orissor Trust, a charitable educational organization set up by Dorothy Fosbrooke, Bill Dawson and ex-New York cop Frank Serpico.

Reaction

At first, the non-animal diet recommended by Orissor was ridiculed by most people up and down the UK. However, over time people began to see that, actually, Dorothy, Bill and the Orissor Team were totally correct in promoting a non-animal diet, and scientists today admit this is the healthiest way of eating anyone could choose.

Today

In 1989, the Trust relocated to the Isle of Bute, in the West of Scotland. Then three years later, Dorothy Fosbrooke died. Or, I should say, she ‘went home’. As you can imagine, it was a big shock to all of us within the Trust… we were devastated. Dorothy had always been the heart and Soul of Orissor, and the whole movement would never have happened without her. But we did what she always would have wanted, and continued to build on the wonderful work she had begun.
